Reasons Why You Should Do Squats Every Day

Squatting is one of the best exercises you can perform. From joint mobility to core activation to digestive help, people were born to squat. Remember when you were a kid and you always played with your toys? Most of the time, it was in a squat. Parents – did you ever notice that when your little one was able to stand on their own, they were also able to squat? We’re wired to squat from birth, but as we get older and more sedentary, our ability to perform this simple action becomes challenging. Children have some of the best squat form in the world! You know why? They aren’t sitting at a desk all freaking day. They don’t sit when they drive to work. They don’t sit when they eat (they’re likely standing and throwing their food everywhere, besides the point) and they don’t sit when they watch TV. Think about it – we’re sitting like 90% of day (most of us). Poor posture, low back pain, muscular imbalance and weakness all come with sitting, and it’s time to put a stop to it!

Squatting daily doesn’t mean you have to hit the gym. Quite the opposite, actually. We are just looking to improve your joint health and postures for your daily living. When we say you should squat daily, what we really mean is that you should spend time in the bottom position of a squat for a few minutes every day. Grab a pole, or your desk, or something that will allow you to grab a hold of, and sit down in the bottom of a squat for 30 seconds. Repeat that 10 times. This is going to help to open up your joints, and you are going to feel less restricted because of it.

1. BUILD A BANGING NEW PLAY LIST

Sometimes when you want to get into the zone, the rights tunes will get you there. According to research, we often associate music with memories and the context within which we first heard the music.

If you know the kind of music that puts a spring in your step, using that music for a playlist will give you the ‘spring ‘, you need to get off the sofa and onto your next session.

But don’t go for music that is too fast: according to a 2010 study, songs with beats from 120-140bpm provide the maximum benefit for moderate exercisers. If you’re an iTunes fan, you can search for music by bpm.

2. GET NEW TRAINING KIT

According to a 2012 study, you associate the clothes you wear with the activities you do. You associate yourself even more with an activity when you wear the uniform, so by putting on your training duds you’re more inclined to walk the walk and get to your workouts.

Benjamin Franklin was 100% right in saying ‘If you fail to plan, you plan to fail’. By putting a regular appointment into your diary (not saying I’ll get to it later today – physically block the time out) you’re much more inclined to stick to the regime.

This action will turn into a habit, helping you entrench the behaviour and reap the benefits of consistent training.

Top Tip: if at all possible, start early. With most schedules, you’ll have maximum control of your day at the start of it, so schedule your sessions in the morning to get the training in before the day goes sideways.

HOW OUR MEMBERS KEEP THEIR TRAINING CONSISTENT OVER THE WINTER MONTHS

Here at Fit to Last, our members train consistently three times a week in a small group. They tell us that signing up to our program helps them to keep working out consistently (even through the dark winter months) for the following reasons:

Today kicks off Computer Science Education Week! Held every December in honor of the computer science pioneer Admiral Grace Hopper, this global grassroots movement is designed to raise awareness and encourage computer science education.

Join us for an invite only day of fun and learning at our company headquarters in Austin, TX.  You will meet key executives at Code Galaxy and get an inside glimpse of our education program, marketing and business systems. Every Computer Science Education Week, Code.org organizes the Hour of Code™ to get kids around the world coding for at least 1 hour during the week, a mission close to our hearts at Launch. To make the most of the week and take advantage of the Hour of Code™ movement, we’ve collected compiled you need to know in one place!

1. Use free resources to spend an hour learning to code with your child

The Hour of Code™ is a great way for a child to dip their toes into coding. Browse Code.org’s free coding activities here to choose one to work through with your child.
